Artists statement

I wanted to celebrate the creativity that is facilitated and encouraged within the family. Everyone has creativity genes in their DNA. How they are expressed is often unique. As a child I was provided with finger painting, dough, glue and matchsticks and like other children.  I created. As children we cherish these things fleetingly. My grandmothers always had a special display of arts and craft we had made, and we felt really valued seeing these works were now treasured by someone else. When creativity is valued, it flourishes.  Creativity in our family was nurtured by providing lots of materials, space, time, classes, books, visiting places of creativity and celebrating all the creative efforts made with pride.  As a mother, I have valued creativity in my own way.

Someone commented that my house looks like a museum, crammed with things to look at. Art adorns the walls, oils alongside blu-tac pencil drawings by my children.  This exhibition is a little like my home.

My mother Marian Porter, has been studying and practicing Chinese Brush Painting for more than 10 years,

Every thought and bone in my husband, Dean Kriesls’ body is brimming with creativity.  He is my greatest supporter. My eldest, Jarrah Clarke is passionate about photography and is president of the Monash University Photography Club. Creativity means, Zoe Clarke is never sitting still. Zoe is studying Sculpture at RMIT University. Jolan and Tara Kriesl are 5 and 4 years old. Their life is full of singing, drama, drawing, constructing and painting. My Father has been a great supporter, always proud of all the art and encouraging me to take it to a professional level.

I am a mother, sculptor, teacher, gardener, and arts advocate. My sculpting workshops run throughout the year and you can see some of my larger sculpture at Warragul Bourke St Park, and Yarragon Market St Playground.
