Artist’s statement
Peter Dumergue:
After moving to Cape Woolamai six years ago I decided to concentrate on my Photography and began exploring the landscapes around Phillip Island. After holding an ongoing exhibition in a Café in San Remo in 2017 I decided that I also wanted to explore taking my Photography further and try and incorporate other mediums into the surfaces..I then began to introduce a range of mixed medium such as watercolour, gouache, acrylic and oil paints along with various metals. This also led me to explore using the encaustic process and I introduced various pigmented waxes into the works. The works now also include a variety of drawing, air-brush, acrylic and etched glass techniques as well as the photographic elements.
Marg Dumergue:
In my photographs I am trying to capture the ancient past of the land, that spirit which sustains our first nation’s people. I feel deeply, as a white Australian, an urgent need to connect with and understand the rhythms of this land. I see it as an essential path towards reconciliation and restoration of our people and our land.
