Artist Statement:
I love to work with colour. I leave realism to the camera and like to paint my world as it affects me. Fortunately that world is in beautiful Gippsland where one is surrounded by sky, water, trees and gardens.
My earlier works centred mainly on the water and rocks at Wilson’s Promontory. Trees feature in my work as they are such an important part of our environment, providing shelter to so many creatures as well as giving shelter and life to the planet. I’m a keen gardener so gardens and flowers are also a feature.
My latest works are very abstract, where I play with colour, shape and composition. Themes emerge that I try to leave undefined to invite the viewer to read their own story into them. This can change with time and viewing.
One influence on my work was the mosaic artist Maery Gabriel, who took this approach with mosaic. The material suggesting the path and creating a dialogue between the creator and the creation.
It’s an exciting journey. Some voyages leading nowhere, others a wild ride before the end goal is reached.
