Maureen has a variety of influences. Her artistic endeavours include an inherited love of nature, flowers and gardens and hence a career in floristry. This lead to winning several major awards at the Australian National Flower show.
Inspiration has come from artists such as the wonderful Gary Miles who lives locally, Nell Frysteen and other members of the Victorian Artists Society and also the very exciting Charles Reid from America. She has maintained an individual Style which she calls " expressive realism".
She has been dubbed by some peers as the "Queen of whirls and squirts" and has a passion for colour and vibrancy in her work.
Maureen delights in collecting stuff, feathers, fabrics, beads and some of these fabrics used on her figures are Japanese temple fabrics from an old weird warehouse in Melbourne.
The collages are a fun challenge to herself to create within an artwork the facility for the viewer to imagine their own fantasy. These works are colourful, captivating and imaginative.
There is also a group of abstract works done with alcohol inks and pen drawing as well as a set of bird paintings and flowers still life and landscapes of places she has travelled. This exhibition is quite a cross section of subjects that have appealed to her imagination.
Maureens natural "Joie de vivre" and spontaneity are evident in all her works.
This is her Sixth solo exhibition and show her most recent works executed with enthusiasm and gusto.
Please take this as a personal invitation to come to the show, bring friends and family and enjoy.
The show is open daily from Friday 1st July til Tuesday 26th July from 9 to 5pm
The official opening is by former shire engineer Gary Surman on Sunday 3rd July at 2.00 pm
